Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Look insideCharlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie LOVES chocolate, but his family are so poor that all they can afford to eat is cabbage soup… until he wins a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, a place of unimaginable inventions and undreamed-of flavours. The chocolate factory is a marvellous place, but it also has sinister secrets. Why does no-one ever come out? Who are the Oompa-Loompas, the tiny, singing workers who make the sweets and chocolates? And what spectacular surprise has Mr Wonka got in store for Charlie? Roald Dahl’s best-loved book is a dream ticket into a world where fantasies come to life. From rivers of chocolate to the exotic Oompa-Loompas, Charlie’s journey is a treat you won’t be able to resist!

Roald Dahl is probably the best loved children’s author ever. Millions of children from all around the world have chuckled and gasped at his amazing stories. Born in 1916, he served as a fighter pilot in Africa during WWII before becoming a writer. His mesmerising stories, written in sizzling, sparkly language, will lead you into adventures you’ll never ever forget!

Roald Dahl has won many awards for his books including the Whitbread Award for The Witches in 1983, the Smarties Award in 1990 for Esio Trot and the Blue Peter prize for Matilda in 2000. In 2008 the Roald Dahl estate launched an award in his name – the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
